This week I have a confession to make.
I cut some runs short.....yep......runs.....plural......SEVERAL of them.
And I'm okay with that. Well I am now.....eventually.
Something in my hip was really unhappy. Quite the opposite of relaxed and hippy. No peace and love there.
I stood firm. I pushed on, I rescheduled easy 1 mile streak day runs for earlier in the week. I left the 26 mile big bad boy until later. And then I carb loaded and packed my running rucksack and set off to run 15 home then 11 along the coast to finish.
But no. I felt it. It was still unhappy. And by the time I passed my front door it was really cross.
Well I say passed.....I went in and didn't come back out again. Then I ignored the alarm for the 7 miler in the morning and did 6 miles running errands in sections through the day instead. The easy lazy option.
But I felt super guilty so I took a Pilates class to stretch it all out.
And loe and behold, tired muscles don't all love extra exercise. Ms Right Hip got a friend Ms Left Knee joined in the ouchy pity party.
Like a proper grown up.
Then, when I was eating mini kinder eggs on the sofa, trying to dredge up the energy to run the 6 miles on the plan, I had a revelation.
It probably was a healthy idea to cut back on the miles this week. And that doesn't mean that I won't nail it next week with super fresh legs. The only choice I have is whether or not to feel guilty about lazing about or just fecking enjoy it.
Sunday is a joyous day that you can fill with naps and baths, dressing gowns and jellybeans, movies and blogging, chilling with cats and messaging friends.
So I did.
Ignoring my phone when it told me I wasn't being active enough.
Eating enough to feed a house party of sugar addicted toddlers.
And running a single, solitary mile.
So yeah, my back to back runs were a cop out and I'm EIGHTEEN whole, long, miles down for the week.
But that's okay. Tomorrow is a new day and maybe I need to worry less about following the plan and more about listening to my body.
And I've met me, I won't be copping out on race day just because I'm a little less prepared.
Not when there's a medal and celebration food at stake ;)
